Listen to This! New Indie Music Blog October 3rd 2023

Check out the latest indie music selections for October 3rd, 2023.

First off we have a new rock/punk track “Drowner” by the band Park Safely. Here’s a quote from the artist.

“A vulnerable inflection on how selfishness and bad choices lead to the strain and breakdown of relationships, ‘Drowner’ is the second of three tracks recorded at Organic Audio Studios, with producer Sean Mitchell in late 2022. It talks of the nature of how it feels to be “off on one,” recreating the tunnel vision of an addiction fueled bender. Post-Grunge, Alt-Rock, Shoegaze and Emo bands such as Narrow Head, Fiddlehead, Foo Fighters and Basement were the driving influences behind the sound and feel of the track.”

Next we have a Lo-Fi track ‘welcome’ by the band Jackie Kean!

The third track which reminded me of older tracks from the likes of Aphex Twin. I loved the nightmarish AI video that was made to accompany the experimental electronics. Here’s a quote from the artist.
“The track is complete with an AI-generated video intended to probe the very idea of an AI-generated video. It samples a favourite kids’ TV show of mine from the 90s. It’s supposed to describe how life seems to just keep repeatedly outdoing its own madness and yet people just crack on with it anyway and no one really stops and questions whether we’re doing this right or whether we’ve lost the plot entirely.”

Next we had some good, old-school rock exploring some UFO themes. It would fit perfectly in an episode of the X-Files.

The artist mentioned in his submission about having fears being abducted from watching too many UFO documentaries.

“Window” by Big Sigh was a pleasant throwback to older indie rock and I enjoyed the simple melody line and back to the basics with melody.
